Recently a news commentator made this statement, “The world is evolving.”  The statement was part of his enthusiastic response to the fact that an individual had been nationally recognized and honored.  The sad thing was that the person was receiving accolades for doing something that went against the teachings of our God.  This person was living in sin, and because “the world was evolving” society was accepting and glorifying the sin.

This incidence, and many more things that are happening in our society, makes me shudder to think of the world in which my grandchildren and great grandchildren will be raised.  Today, more than ever, it is imperative that parents follow God’s commandment that he gave to His followers in Deuteronomy 11:16-21.  Verse 18 specifically says “Teach them (God’s words) to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

No longer can parents depend on the schools, the churches, or society to teach their children the words of God and about the way God wants us to live.  Even if you attend church regularly the time your child spends there is not enough to teach him everything he needs to know about how to live for God.  Parents need to take seriously the command that God has given them to teach their children about God and his plan of salvation for those who believe in Jesus.  Of course that is most important, but accepting Christ as your savior does not just mean that we live any way we want.  Parents need to teach their children about living for God.

The biggest impact that parents will have on their children is the way their children see their parents live.  Do your children see you praying and reading the Bible?  Do you attend church with your children?  Do you talk to your children about the things of God when you are at home, when you are driving in the car, and when you put them to bed at night?  Do you pray before meals?  Do you have family devotionals?  Does church attendance take priority on Sunday?  Do your children or grandchildren see you living for God in every action whether at church, at work, or at home?

Make a commitment to live out Deuteronomy 11:16-21.  I believe the fate of our country depends on it.
