Keep it Going

By: Donna Martin

It’s the little things that matter.  Like a prayer before your meals, a Bible story and a prayer as a family before bedtime, taking your children to church every Sunday, having meals together as a family.  These are things that do not cost any money, but they are things that will make an impact in the lives of your family.  But these practices and traditions can be easily lost in one generation and never practiced again.  Did your parents read the Bible to you?  Do you read the Bible to your children?  Will they read the Bible to their children?  Did your parents pray at mealtime?  Do you?  Will your children?  You cannot control the future, but you can make an impact on it.  Think about the things that your parents and grandparents did that made an impact on your life.  What are you doing to impact your children for God?

Psalms 78: 3-4 says “What we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.”

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 tells us, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
