What a Wonderful World?

“The world has gone crazy!!!”  I exclaimed after hearing a news cast.  “How can people do these things?  How can they think that is ok?”  I have had this reaction on numerous occasions.  I am filled with shock and disbelief over the condition of our world.  People need the Lord, I think to myself.  However, when reading last week’s devotional and memory verse in O.S. Hawkins’ book, The Joshua Code, I was convicted that the problem may be more than that.

We were reading week 19 of The Joshua Code.  The book presents a verse to memorize for the week and a devotional about the verse.  Last week’s verse was “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)  Dr. Hawkins makes this statement, “God’s problem is not with the lost but with His own people.  Many are pointing to the decay of our culture as being the result of the decline of our moral fabric and the influence of secular, and often downright godless factors all around us.  However, God reveals that the real issue is not with “them” but with “us.” (P. 106)

That is something to think about. If we desire for people who do not believe in God to get saved, if we desire for our country to turn to Christ, if we desire others to live Godly lives then God says His people must turn to Him and pray and get their lives right with God, and then God will forgive us of our sins and heal our land. 

What does this look like in your life, in your marriage, in your home?  What wickedness is hidden in your heart?  What would happen in your own family if you humbled yourself before God and prayed; if you sought God with all of your heart; if you turned from your sin and started living the way God wants you to live?  Are you blending in with the world or is your “Light shining before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16)?

Our marriages, our homes, our and our land need to be healed.  Seek God and pray.  He will hear you.
