The Truth Does Not Change

 By:  Donna Martin

As a child of about nine I remember being uncomfortable when my parents would turn on our black and white television and our family would sit in our small living room watching the Billy Graham Crusade.  My uncomfortable feeling was the result of the Holy Spirit tugging at my soul.  Even as a young child I was convicted of the truth Billy Graham was preaching, and I knew that I needed to accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior.  For the rest of his life Billy Graham continued to teach the truth of John 14:6 that “I (Jesus) am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me (Jesus).”  It is a truth so simple yet so powerful that even a child can understand it.

Sadly, Isaiah’s prophesy (Isaiah 24:4-6) is being fulfilled still today.  People have “transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance….”  As we talk with people about their relationship to God, we hear the same false belief expressed over and over.  They tell us, “It doesn’t matter who we worship, or how we worship because we are all worshipping the same God.”  These people only acknowledge that Jesus was a good man.  They do not accept that He is the only way.  They believe that their good works will get them to heaven or will end their cycle of rebirth.  These people have changed God’s truth.

In society today we can also see how people are changing the basic moral code that the Bible teaches.  Movies, books, television shows, even text books are pushing false ideas about what is morally correct.

The truth is found in the Bible.  As parents and grandparents it is imperative that we read and study the Bible.  It is imperative that we read it to our children and grandchildren, and that we teach our children and grandchildren, by our words and actions, the truths of God.

The message of the Bible has never changed and will never change.  For that reason we can rely on it, we can trust that it is true.  Help your children “hide the word of God in their hearts” (Psalm 119:11) so that they will be armed with “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”  (Ephesians 6:7b)
